The Bonham Education Foundation is a local non-profit (501)(c)(3) organization which includes parents, educators and concerned citizens. The Foundation was formed in 1999 with the purpose of promoting excellence in education in the Bonham Independent School District. The Foundation aims to support the Bonham Independent School District in preparing students educationally for life and careers in the 21st century through encouragement and recognition of scholarship and creativity.
Texas Scholars
The Bonham Education Foundation awards Texas Scholars recognition to students at Bonham High School each spring. Students who meet the grade and course requirements are notified of their eligibility for Texas Scholars recognition and asked to submit proof of at least 8 hours of community service.
The freshmen, sophomore and juniors who meet all of the requirements are presented certificates at the all-school awards ceremony in May of each year.
Seniors who meet the requirements are honored at a special luncheon in May that is hosted by the board of the Bonham Education Foundation. Seniors are presented with certificates and medals. They are encouraged to wear their medals during their graduation ceremony.
Academic Excellence
Each fall, the Bonham Education Foundation hosts the Academic Excellence Awards ceremony at Bonham High School. Students who maintain at least a 4.0 grade point average for the previous year are honored.
The first year a student achieves this honor, they are awarded a purple blanket that is embroidered with their class year and a symbol of the school. In subsequent years, students are given a patch to add to the blanket they have already received.
Scholarships
The Bonham Education Foundation annually awards scholarships to graduating Bonham High School students to help in funding tuition for colleges and universities.
The Foundation is also proud to manage the funds and assist in awarding the Jeff Kennedy Memorial Scholarships.
Contact Bonham High School counselors for an application to all scholarships awarded by the Foundation, including the memorial scholarships.
Grants
Each year, all teachers with Bonham Independent School District are invited to submit a grant request to the Bonham Education Foundation for special projects or needs to benefit their students. The Board reviews all grant proposals and selects the winners.
